Social media is important in business growth and success in today’s digital world. In older days, most businesses operated on a physical basis, but with social media, they can list themselves online and better connect with their customers. Of all these social media platforms, Reddit is one of the most popular and widely used for engaging.

Unlike any other platform like Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, etc, Reddit is a place where you can engage just like any other social media platform. However, it has a notorious reputation in the marketing field because of how hard it is to market to people.

Unlike the simple ways where you can create a post, add a photo, and put in the link, you need to strategically use your words to not sound promotional.

But it is easier said than done. If you are continuously getting banned in Reddit or do not know how to go on with promoting your brand, then in this article we will break down Reddit and also tell you how not to get banned.

Why Reddit Bans Account?

Reddit is a social media platform where you can browse anonymously and maintain your privacy. Reddit follows certain algorithms through which they detect if someone is using Reddit for spam or marketing and bans them.

For starters, Reddit has listed its content policy. These are rules that you need to follow while engaging in the platform. If Reddit finds that you are breaking a rule, it has multiple ways to deal with it, such as placing a temporary ban, sending you a warning message, or banning or suspending your account.

Reddit Moderation Policy

Reddit has a strict content policy that allows it to detect spam and bots and ban them from the platform. This ensures the platform is safe and open for all. On top, Reddit has admins that manually check any reports and discrepancies. Other than that, the ones that are continuously suspending your account are automatic algorithms. These algorithms keep any new profile in check and if they do anything spammy, they will immediately get banned. No warnings!

Can You Do Something About the Ban?

In simple terms, you cannot! If you are banned, then you cannot do anything to retrieve that account. But that is not the end, there are still ways that can help you avoid a ban.

For New Accounts

If you have a new account, the quickest solution Reddit will come up with is to suspend your account. No warnings! So, you should proceed carefully and do not post anything promotional. Reddit allows promotions, but there are certain places and ways like Ads or subs like r/promotereddit. These places are where you can promote, but don’t just start adding your link blindly and spam the sub.

For Old Account

If your account is old, like a year or so, and then you do something like copy-pasting the same message to hundreds of people – that will be counted as spam, but you will get a warning before they do anything significant, simply because you have some reputation which makes it a little safer but if you repeat or do something that goes against Reddit’s content policy you will get banned.

Submit An Appeal

If your account got banned and you know you have not done anything that could trigger the ban you can submit an appeal to the mods and they will take a second look. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get unbanned, but if your actions are justified and do not break any law, they will revert the ban if not, it will stay like that.

How Not to Get Banned?

Evading a ban is simple but a little tricky, especially if you are using Reddit to do marketing. Let’s discuss these steps in detail.

Overly Engaging

If you are posting or commenting too frequently, you are engaging too much, thus you will easily attract attention from the Reddit Bots, which may ban you for your high activity as you may be spamming. This applies to the new accounts. So if you are overly engaging and your account is new, you will get banned right away. Therefore, engage in moderation.

IPQS

IPQS or IP Quality Score is a score given to your IP address based on its reputation. Ideally, you should have a score as low as possible. Go to IPQS and check your IP reputation. It will show you the reputation of your IP. The higher the number the more chances you have of getting banned.

Creating Multiple Accounts

There is no limit to creating accounts in Reddit from one email address. So, you may think, creating multiple accounts will be a good idea. But you are just digging a grave to get banned. So, it is a bad idea to create multiple accounts. Rather focus on creating one account that is legit and post smartly.

Posting Links

If you are creating a new account, you should refrain from posting any links. Directing traffic toward any external website in the starting phase of your account has a higher chance of being marked as spam. So continue engaging with posts and take a few weeks to build your reputation. The more Karma (reputation) you have the more things you can do.

Dealing with Cookies

Now if you are continuously getting banned, even if you comment, then probably your account has been blacklisted. This means, that no matter how many accounts you create, you will be banned immediately when you engage with other posts. This happens because Reddit has stored cookies in your web browser. These cookies allow Reddit to identify your account and ban it. So, if you are dealing with this issue, switch to another Google account as a web browser. As cookies are stored only in the browser, the new browser will allow you to create and avoid getting banned.

Endnote

Reddit is a fun and engaging platform where you can do lots of stuff. But the only way to go a long way is to be legit and true! So, if you are struggling to keep your account live, then these steps will be of great help. If it works for you, share this article with people who are also struggling to keep their accounts live.
